The heart of Milies is its lively main square, anchored by the historic church of Pammegiston Taxiarchon. Step inside to admire centuries-old frescoes and a richly carved wooden iconostasis. Just a short walk away, the old public library and reading room—one of the first in Greece—hosts rare manuscripts and offers a glimpse into the village’s intellectual past. Cafés and tavernas spill onto the square, serving strong Greek coffee, local wine, and homemade pies filled with cheese or wild greens. A highlight of any visit is the legendary Pelion steam train, known as “Moutzouris.” The stone railway station of Milies marks the end of a scenic route that snakes across arched bridges and along lush hillsides from Ano Lechonia.
